STI Tests Los Angeles
There’s nothing to be afraid or embarrassed about when getting tested for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). In fact, most STIs can be cured with proper medication.
All information that you share with the clinic, doctor and nurses during your physical exam will be kept confidential. The doctor will ask some you some questions about your general health and sexual history, such as:
- When you last had sex
- Whether you’ve had unprotected sex
- Whether you have any symptoms
Based on the answers, they will recommend some tests for you to take. Some of these tests may include:
- A urine sample
- A blood sample
- Swabs from your genital area (e.g. urethra)
Test results can take up to two weeks, but some can be delivered within the same day. If you test positive, you’ll be scheduled for another appointment with a doctor to discuss treatment options. Though some STIs, like HIV, don’t have a cure, they can nonetheless be treated with medication and chronic disease management. Most STIs, however, can be cured using antibiotics.
